No advertisements are served on any webpages on the Website. As a result, we do not drop any advertising or third-party tracking cookies at anytime. Any instance of this being done is unintentional, and if you observe a tracking cookie please immediately contact me so this can be rectified.

However, when you load the the Website, you load data from certain third parties. These third parties are:

  • Cloudflare, who host the website and provide the content delivery network (CDN)

If you use the Historical Boundaries viewer, you will load content from:

  • MapTiler, who host the background map data provided;
  • In some cases, the OpenStreetMap tile service, which has a privacy policy available at https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

The Third-Parties

Cloudflare

All content on this website, other than that mentioned above, is hosted by Cloudflare, a company based in the United States. Cloudflare does not collect personal identifying information (PII) about individual users, although they do collect IP addresses and some configuration data of users that connect to the Website.

Cloudflare processes this data in line with their privacy policy. When viewing the Cloudflare dashboard, I am provided with anonymised, aggregated data on those connecting to the Website such as the number of connections from a certain country.

MapTiler

If you use the Historical Boundaries viewer, you will load content from MapTiler servers.

MapTiler is a mapping company based in Switzerland. They provide most of the background map layers you see when using the Historical Boundaries viewer, including the default dark background.

All of MapTiler’s data centres are based in the EU, and any collected user data is handled in a GDPR-compliant manner. The only data that is collected from users is IP addresses, which are stored for a maximum of 20 minutes from the time of request before being deleted from their servers.
